Cassini saturn essay

The moons of Saturn are numerous and diverse ranging from tiny moonlets less than 1 kilometer across to the enormous Titan, which is larger than the planet Mercury. Saturn has 62 moons with confirmed orbits, 53 of which have names and only 13 of which have diameters larger than 50 kilometers (Porco 2009).

Since that date Cassini has been orbiting around Saturn constantly sending new and fascinating information regarding our sixth planet.

The clouds that are seen when looking at Saturn are just the top layer of a very deep layer that covers a center of liquid hydrogen. The clouds are blown by constant winds that reach speeds up to one thousand miles per hour at the equator of the planet (“Great Space Place”).

Created between 1819 through 1823, the painting’s legend stems from Greek mythology (Goya, 1970). Saturn, also known as Cronus, was the almighty Greek titan who had come to power by taking over his father before him.
